Urban Roots in Nevada
In this episode; Cheri Hill is joined by two representatives from Urban Roots, Fayth Ross and Frankie Vigil. Urban Roots is a local organization that aims to educate about gardening and healthy living/eating.
Started in 2009, Urban Roots educates K-12 Students that growing your own vegetables and fruit can be tasty as well as rewarding. Urban Roots has converted a building on 4th Street into a primary teaching location for camps and classes and a previously empty lot on 1700 E. Second Street into an urban garden. Their main office is located in Reno's Mid-Town.
Their classes include field trips to local parks, weekly summer camps, once-a-week classes for home school children, and outreach programs to schools and classrooms.
If you are interested in what Urban Roots has to offer, they are holding a Saint Patrick's Day event this Saturday, at Liberty Food & Wine Exchange on 100 North Sierra Street. You'll be able to order a corned beef and cabbage sandwich from 11 AM - 10 PM, with cabbage grown by children in Urban Roots Programs. All proceeds support Urban Roots and their work.
