The Eddy House
On todays episode, Cheri Hill is joined by Michelle Ghear. Michelle works with the Eddy House in Reno, Nevada. The mission of the Eddy House is to work with homeless and at-risk youth to develop life and job skills necessary for sustainable independence.
While the Eddy House has been helping those in need since 2011, there is still more they wish to accomplish. One major point, is how long they can stay open for. Currently, the Eddy House is open during the day, but closes in the evening. Their goal is to expand into a 24-hour resource center, and to provide more medical services. Giving homeless youth access to a 24-hour care center would be a large improvement, as after the Eddy House closes, most return to the street where many are assaulted on a regular basis.
Currently the Eddy House provides care and comfort services such as showers/bathrooms, food, and clothing. Donations are always welcome, those interested can find a wish-list on the Eddy House website, or they can donate their time for cooking meals and other volunteer options.
